3 Days / 2 Nights
4 Days / 3 Nights
4 Days / 3 NightsMurudeshwar is about 600 km from Coimbatore by road, a drive of around 12 hours with breaks. That is a full travel day each way, which is why we sell it only as a 3 or 4 day trip together with Udupi, Mangalore or Gokarna. Karnataka Tourism gives the distance from Mangalore as about 165 km, and the town has a Konkan Railway station. Our driver picks you up in Coimbatore and stays with the group for the whole trip.
The main places to visit in Murudeshwar are the temple, the 123 foot Shiva statue on Kanduka Hill, the Raja Gopuram and the beach. Karnataka Tourism says the statue is visible from the sea and looks best at sunset and at night when lit.
Things to do in Murdeshwar include darshan, the lift ride up the gopuram, the museum, a sunset on the beach and water sports. The official page lists jet skiing, speed boats and banana boat rides along the beach, and Netrani Island, a short boat ride away, known for scuba diving and snorkelling. Water sports and Netrani trips are suspended during the monsoon, so they depend on your dates.
Temple hours given by Karnataka Tourism are 6:00 AM to 8:30 PM, with morning darshan until 1:00 PM and evening darshan from 3:00 PM. Free afternoon meals are served subject to availability. The dress code asks men to wear a dhoti or formal trousers and women a saree or churidar with dupatta; shorts, sleeveless tops and ripped jeans are not allowed, and footwear is removed. Photography is restricted inside the sanctum. Check timings before you go, as temples can change them for festivals.
We run three Murudeshwar packages from Coimbatore. The Gokarna Murudeshwar 4 days package pairs the temple with Gokarna, so a gokarna murudeshwar trip stays on the coast the whole time. The Mangalore Udupi Murudeshwar 4 days plan adds two more coastal towns, and the Udupi Murudeshwar 3 days plan is the shortest option.

The Murudeshwar best time to visit is October to March. Karnataka Tourism describes October to February as the peak, with clear skies, calm seas and all water sports running, and March to May as hotter and more humid with fewer visitors. June to September is the monsoon: the scenery is green and the temple is quiet, but diving and boat trips stop. The same page says to book ahead for Diwali, Christmas, New Year and Maha Shivaratri.
Yes, and the long drive makes combining almost necessary. Udupi, Gokarna and Mangalore are the usual neighbours, and Kollur and Dharmasthala have their own pages. Karnataka Tourism also lists Mirjan Fort (18 km, a 16th century fort on the Aghanashini River), Idagunji (35 km, known for its Ganapathi temple) and Jog Falls (120 km) as nearby attractions. Tell us how many days you have and we suggest an order that avoids doubling back.
