How far is Kukke Subramanya from Coimbatore?

Kukke Subramanya is about 365 km from Coimbatore, a drive of around 7.5 hours without long stops. The road goes through Sathyamangalam, Chamarajanagar and the Dakshina Kannada ghats. Karnataka Tourism lists Mangaluru airport as the nearest, 105 km away, and Subramanya Road station as the nearest railhead, 12 km from the temple.

Few visitors come only for the temple from Coimbatore, because the distance is long. Most combine it with Udupi, Kollur and Dharmasthala, which is how our package is built.

Kukke Subramanya in our Karnataka temple tour

Kukke Subramanya is day 4 of our 5 day Karnataka temple tour, from ₹20,800 per person. The tour covers Udupi Sri Krishna Matha, Kollur Mookambika, Dharmasthala and Kukke Subramanya. One price covers the AC vehicle, driver, fuel, toll, parking, Karnataka permit, entry tax and the hotel (3-star or similar).

The day plan is simple. You drive from Dharmasthala to Kukke Subramanya for darshan and any seva you have booked, and the rest of the day is free for temples around the town. The next morning you can attend darshan, then drive home to Coimbatore, a day of about 10 hours with stops. An extra night on the way can be added on request. Meals, entry tickets and personal expenses are extra.

About the temple and its rituals

If you searched for Kukke Subramanya Swamy, this is the same temple. The Kukke Subramanya Temple stands on the banks of the Kumaradhara River in Dakshina Kannada district. Kartikeya is worshipped here as Subramanya, lord of all serpents. According to Karnataka Tourism, the legend says the serpent Vasuki took refuge here from Garuda, and the popular rituals are Ashlesha Bali and Sarpa Dosha Parihara.

  • Book sevas in advance. Karnataka Tourism says the popular puja rituals should be booked online beforehand. Tell us your date and the seva you want, and we plan the day around it.
  • Dress modestly. Karnataka Tourism asks visitors to dress modestly and respectfully in the temple.
  • Expect crowds. The temple draws large crowds, especially on Ashlesha Bali days.
  • Nearby stops. Dharmasthala is 55 km away, Madikeri 75 km and Bisle Ghat 20 km.

Other temples on the same tour

The tour starts at Udupi, where you have evening darshan at Sri Krishna Matha. Day 2 is Kollur for the Mookambika Temple, with Murudeshwar as an option if you go up the coast first. Day 3 drives back through Udupi to Dharmasthala for evening darshan. Each of these has its own page, linked below.

The first day is the longest, about 10 to 11 hours with stops, so we start early. Ask us if you want to drop Murudeshwar or add a rest day.

Kumara Parvatha trek and Kukke Subramanya trekking

Kumara Parvatha is the trek near the temple. Karnataka Tourism calls it challenging and asks you to plan for suitable gear and time. It is a full-day effort, so it does not fit inside our 5 day temple tour. If you want to add it, ask us for a custom trip with an extra night at Kukke.

Best time to visit Kukke Subramanya

October to February is easiest. The south-west monsoon, June to September, brings heavy rain to the coast and the Western Ghats, and the ghat road and trek can be affected. March to May is hot on the plains and humid near the coast.

Nagara Panchami and Shasti are festival days at the temple, so expect larger crowds then. See our pages for Dharmasthala, Udupi, Kollur, Murudeshwar and Karnataka. For a coastal plan with fewer temples, see the Mangalore Udupi Murudeshwar plan.
