Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Udupi, Sri Krishna Matha and Malpe Beach

    We leave early for the coast, about 530 km and 10 to 11 hours with stops. In Udupi, visit Sri Krishna Matha, then catch the late afternoon at Malpe Beach. Night in Udupi.

  2. Day 2: Udupi to Murudeshwar, temple, Shiva statue and beach

    Drive north along the coast to Murudeshwar. Visit the temple, take the lift up the Raja Gopuram, walk around the Shiva statue and spend the evening on the beach. Night in Murudeshwar.

  3. Day 3: Optional Kollur visit, then home

    If you choose Kollur, we drive inland to the Mookambika Temple in the morning, then head back to Coimbatore, about 600 km and 12 hours or more with stops. This is a long day, so expect to reach Coimbatore late at night. An extra night on the way can be added on request. We drop you at your pickup point.

Places you will see

At the Udupi Krishna temple, devotees see Lord Krishna through a nine-holed window, the Navagraha Kitiki, says the Udupi district page on Sri Krishna Matt. Karnataka Tourism lists it open 5 am to 9 pm and notes that eight mathas run its rituals in turns.

Malpe Beach has boats to St Mary's Island from the nearby harbour, per the same Karnataka Tourism page. Ask us if you want to add the island. Boat service depends on season and sea conditions, so we check it for your date.

In Murudeshwar, the 123-foot statue of Shiva stands on Kanduka Hill with the sea on three sides. Behind it, the Raja Gopuram rises 20 storeys (249 feet) and has a lift to the top. Karnataka Tourism's Murudeshwara page lists temple hours of 6 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 8.30 pm, and a dress code: dhoti or formal trousers for men, saree or chudidar with dupatta for women.

Kollur Mookambika Temple stands on the Souparnika river about 75 km from Udupi, per the Udupi district page.

Best time to go

Karnataka Tourism recommends October to March for Udupi, when beach and temple trips are comfortable. June to September brings heavy rain and rough seas, and beach activities usually stop.

Best photo spots for couples

For couples, Malpe Beach at sunset and the Murudeshwar seafront with the statue behind you are the easiest places for couples' photos on this route. The gopuram top and the rocks below the statue are beautiful places in Murudeshwara for the best views. If you want a pre-wedding photo shoot on the coast, tell us and we will add time; shoots inside temples are not allowed.

Frequently asked questions

Can we do Udupi in one day from Coimbatore?

Not really. The drive alone takes most of a day each way, so an Udupi one day tour package would leave you almost no time at the temple. Three days is the shortest plan we recommend.

Is Kollur included?

Kollur is optional on Day 3. Adding it makes the return drive longer, so decide when you book.

What should we wear?

Both temples ask for traditional dress. Carry a dhoti or formal trousers for men and a saree or chudidar for women.

Can we add Dharmasthala or Kukke?

Yes, with two more days. That is our 5-day Karnataka temple circuit.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who is this package not for?
