How far is Yercaud from Coimbatore?

The Coimbatore to Yercaud distance is about 200 km by road, roughly 3.5 hours of driving via Salem, and longer on season weekends. The last stretch is the ghat road up from Salem, with hairpin bends. The Salem district site puts Yercaud 35 km from Salem Junction, the nearest railway station. We pick you up anywhere in Coimbatore, and the driver stays with the group until we drop you back home.

A Coimbatore to Yercaud bus means changing at Salem and then finding local transport for each viewpoint. A private vehicle takes you door to door.

What is Yercaud known for?

Yercaud is a hill station in the Shevaroy (Servarayan) hills of the Eastern Ghats, in Salem district, at about 1,515 m. The district site calls it the "Poor man's Ooty", and it is smaller and quieter than the Nilgiris. Coffee, orange, pepper and cardamom grow around the town, and Wikipedia dates the first coffee planting to the 1820s under M. D. Cockburn, then collector of Salem.

What are the places to visit in Yercaud?

Most sights sit within a few kilometres of the lake. The Salem district list of Yercaud tourist places gives the details below.

• Yercaud Lake. Often called Emerald Lake. The district site calls it the only natural lake among the hill station lakes in the south, with boating from 9 am to 5.30 pm.
• Anna Park. Beside the lake, and the venue of the May flower show.
• Lady's Seat. A natural rock seat where an English lady is said to have spent her evenings looking over the plains. We save it for sunset.
• Pagoda Point. Also called Pyramid Point, on the eastern edge of the hills about 5 km from town, with a Rama temple and a view over Attur and Ayothiapattinam.
• Killiyur Falls. About 3 km from the lake and fed by its surplus water. Visit after the monsoon; in a dry summer it can be a trickle.
• Shevarayan Temple. A cave temple to Perumal, open 6 am to 8 pm, with a May festival that draws thousands of people from the hill villages.
• Botanical Garden. Run by the Botanical Survey of India, with a "Bell Rock" that rings when you tap it with a stone.
• Silk farm and Rose Garden. About 2 km from town. You see mulberry growing, silk worms and spinning.

Kolli Hills sits at about 1,200 m in Namakkal district, 45 km from Namakkal town, according to the Namakkal district page. The Arapaleeswarar Temple and Agaya Gangai falls are the main stops. The steps down to the falls are steep, so tell us if anyone in the group has trouble with stairs.

How many days do you need for Yercaud?

Two days and one night cover the main sights. A typical Yercaud trip plan from Coimbatore looks like this: on Day 1 you reach Yercaud by lunch, take a boat on the lake, walk through Anna Park and the Rose Garden, and end at Lady's Seat for the sunset. On Day 2 you see Killiyur Falls, the Shevarayan Temple, Bear's Cave and the silk farm, then drive home after lunch. Access to Bear's Cave depends on the estate on the day.

A third day lets you add Pagoda Point and the Botanical Garden at an easy pace, or a second hill station in Kolli Hills. A one day trip from Coimbatore is possible on paper, but with 7 hours on the road there is little time left on the hill.

When is the best time to visit Yercaud?

October to March is cool and comfortable. The climate table on Wikipedia shows January as the coolest month, January to March as the driest, and the heaviest rain from July to November. Killiyur Falls carries the most water after the rains.

In late May, the Yercaud Summer Festival and flower show is held at Anna Park by the lake. Incredible India says it runs for seven days, organised by Tamil Nadu Tourism and the Salem district administration; the 2026 edition ran from 23 to 29 May. Hotels fill that week, and dates change each year, so book early.

Can you combine Yercaud with other hill stations?
