Trichy tour packages

How far is Trichy from Coimbatore?

Trichy is about 240 km from Coimbatore by road, around 4.5 hours of driving with a tea stop. The road runs east through Karur. In both of our Trichy plans, Trichy is the last night of the loop, so the Trichy to Coimbatore drive on the final day is one of the shorter legs of the trip. Trichy also has an international airport about 5 km from the city centre, according to Wikipedia, so a relative flying in from elsewhere can join you there. We confirm any pickup outside Coimbatore in the written quote.

Which Trichy tour packages can you book from Coimbatore?

We sell Trichy as a night inside a longer temple circuit, not as a trip of its own. Two packages stay the night in Trichy and spend time on its temples, and both start and end in Coimbatore.

Package Length From (per person)
Madurai Rameswaram Thanjavur Trichy Tour Package 5 Days / 4 Nights ₹13,800
Madurai Rameswaram Kanyakumari 7 Days Tour Package 7 Days / 6 Nights ₹31,000

The 5 day Madurai, Rameswaram, Thanjavur and Trichy plan has one night in each city. Day 4 covers Srirangam and the Rockfort, and on day 5 you see Samayapuram and Jambukeswarar before the drive home. The 7 day plan with Kanyakumari stops at Kallanai on the way into Trichy on day 6, spends that afternoon at Srirangam and Jambukeswarar, and leaves the Rockfort climb for the last morning.

Our 12 day Tamil Nadu tour also passes through Trichy on its last day. It has no night here, but an hour at Srirangam fits if you start early.

What does a Trichy package cost?

Trichy packages from Coimbatore start at ₹13,800 per person for 5 days, and the 7 day plan starts at ₹31,000 per person. One price covers the AC vehicle, driver, fuel, toll, parking and the hotel nights. Meals, entry tickets, darshan tickets and personal expenses are extra. The rate per person falls as your group grows, because the vehicle cost is shared. Hotel level and travel dates also change it, so we quote for your group.

Places to visit in Trichy

Trichy sightseeing is mostly temples, and the main ones sit within a few kilometres of each other on and around Srirangam island. These are the places our drivers plan the Trichy day around, with details from the Tiruchirappalli district website.

  • Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple. A Vishnu temple on 156 acres with 21 towers, on an islet formed by the Cauvery and the Coleroon. The district calls it the first and most important of the 108 main Vishnu temples, which makes it the best known Divya Desam in Trichy and the shrine most people mean by the Trichy Perumal temple.
  • Rockfort Temple (Ucchi Pillaiyar Kovil). A 275 ft rock in the middle of the city, climbed by 437 steps cut into the stone. The Thayumanaswamy Temple to Shiva is halfway up, and from the top you can see Srirangam and both rivers.
  • Jambukeswarar Temple, Thiruvanaikaval. A Shiva temple 2 km east of Srirangam. Its lingam is partly under water and stands for water, one of the five elements.
  • Samayapuram Mariamman Temple. A large pilgrimage centre for the Goddess Mariamman, visited on the last morning of the 5 day plan.
  • Mukkombu (Upper Anaicut). The point on the Tiruchi Karur road where the Cauvery splits into the Cauvery and the Kollidam, now a picnic spot with parks. It is on the way home, so ask if you want a stop.

Kallanai, the Grand Anicut, is often listed as a Trichy sight, but the Thanjavur district site places it in Thanjavur district. It is an ancient stone and clay dam across the Cauvery built by Karikala Chola in the 2nd century AD. Temple hours change on festival days, and Vaikunta Ekadasi brings very large crowds to Srirangam, so we check timings for your date when we quote.

Famous temples near Srirangam you can add

If you have spare hours, we can add the Brahmapureeswarar temple at Thirupattur, which many people call the Brahma temple near Trichy. It is a short detour, and on the 7 day plan it fits on day 6 or the last morning, depending on temple timings. Thanjavur and its Big Temple are about 65 km away by road, and the Chola temples of Kumbakonam are beyond it. For the south, Trichy pairs with Madurai, Rameswaram and Kanyakumari. Our Velankanni trips also drive through Trichy. The Tamil Nadu page lists every temple circuit we run.

When is the best time to visit Trichy?

October to March is the most comfortable time to visit Trichy. Wikipedia describes it as the hottest city in Tamil Nadu, with the warmest months from April to June. The heaviest rain falls from October to December with the northeast monsoon, and December to February is cool and moist. Temple stone gets hot underfoot on summer afternoons, so in any month we plan the big temples for the morning and the evening.
