How far is Pollachi from Coimbatore and how do you get there?

Pollachi is about 45 km south of Coimbatore, roughly an hour by road. It is the headquarters of Pollachi taluk in Coimbatore district, at about 293 m on the banks of the Aliyar river. Our trips start and end in Coimbatore, so you are picked up from your home or hotel there and driven to Pollachi in our own AC vehicle. If you were looking for Pollachi travels or travels in Pollachi, note that the pickup point is Coimbatore, and Pollachi is the first stop on the way into the hills.

The town is known for coconut, jaggery and vegetables, and its cattle market is a regular one. Its landscape has made it a favourite location for Tamil and other-language films. Most visitors do not stay in the town itself. They use it as the gate to the Anamalai hills and the forest road to Valparai.

What can you see around Pollachi: Aliyar, Monkey Falls, Topslip and Valparai?

Four places make up most Pollachi trips. Aliyar Dam sits at the foot of the Anamalai hills, and the Coimbatore district tourism page lists Kavi Aruvi, better known as Monkey Falls, as a waterfall in the Anaimalai Hills near Aliyar. Topslip is about 37 km from Pollachi. Valparai is about 64 km away.

Topslip and the Anamalai Tiger Reserve

The main tourist facilities of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve are at Topslip, in the northeast corner of the reserve. The name comes from the 19th-century practice of sliding timber logs down the hills there. The reserve covers about 1,480 sq km and has tigers, elephants, leopards, lion-tailed macaques and more than 250 bird species. An Elephant Pongal celebration has been held at Topslip every year since 1997. Sightings are never guaranteed, so treat the safari as a chance, not a promise. Our Pollachi Topslip 2 days package gives you a night near the forest. A separate Topslip page has more.

Valparai and the ghat road

The road to Valparai from Pollachi climbs through 40 hairpin bends and takes about 2 hours on State Highway 78. Valparai sits above 1,000 m and has 56 tea and coffee estates, with the Sholayar Dam on the western side near the Kerala border. Read more on the Valparai tour packages page. People search "Pollachi to Valparai distance" more than anything else about this area, so here it is again: about 64 km, a drive of around 2 hours without long stops.

What is special about the Anamalai Tiger Reserve?

The reserve was first notified as the Anaimalai Wildlife Sanctuary in 1974, became a tiger reserve in 2007 and a Project Tiger reserve in 2008. It has a core of about 959 sq km and a buffer of about 521 sq km. It holds 15 of the 16 bird species endemic to the Western Ghats and 315 recorded butterfly species, 44 of them endemic. The Pollachi range alone covers about 110 sq km. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary lies next to it on the western side. This is why a day in the forest feels very different from a day on the plains, and why we advise starting early.

What can you do in Pollachi in one day?

A one day trip starts in Coimbatore, reaches Pollachi in about an hour and spends the morning at Aliyar Dam and Monkey Falls. After lunch you can drive the first hairpin bends toward Valparai, or return through the coconut farms to Coimbatore. If you want the Valparai tea estates or Sholayar Dam, take the extended Valparai day trip or stay a night. The ghat road is slow, and the climb to Valparai alone takes about 2 hours.

Why start from Coimbatore and not Pollachi?

Coimbatore has the airport, the railway junction and our office in Ganapathy, and Pollachi is on the same road south. Starting in Coimbatore means one pickup and one drop for the whole trip, and the vehicle is already with you when you reach Pollachi.

Which Pollachi tour package should you choose?

Pick by the number of days you have. One day covers Aliyar and Monkey Falls. Two days add Topslip or Valparai with a night in the hills. Three days let you do both without hurrying. Longer plans link Pollachi to Kerala.

Pollachi Aliyar Monkey Falls one day 1 day ₹2,200

How much does a Pollachi tour package cost?

Prices on this page run from ₹2,200 per person for the one day trip to ₹10,500 per person for the 3 day Valparai plan. The price changes with the number of nights, the hotel you pick, the size of the vehicle and how many people share it. One price covers the AC vehicle, driver, fuel, toll, parking and the hotel (3-star or similar, confirmed in your quote). Meals, entry tickets and personal expenses are extra. Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp +91 86101 62373 and we reply with a fixed quote.

What is the best time to visit Pollachi?

October to March is the comfortable season for the plains and the forest. April and May are hot on the plains, though Valparai stays cooler. June to September is the south-west monsoon, with heavy rain on the Valparai ghat and on the Kerala side, so landslide delays and slippery roads are common. Waterfalls look best just after the rains, but rivers can be too high for safe access. We tell you if a stop is closed and swap in another.

Can you combine Pollachi with Kerala or the Nilgiris?

Yes. The Athirapally Valparai package crosses into Kerala through the Anamalai range, and the Munnar 2 days package is a short extension. Kerala packages are priced per person, based on 2 travelling together. Permit and entry tax are included. For the Nilgiris, see Ooty, and for the city itself see Coimbatore.
