Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Munnar, Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, Blossom Park

The Cheeyappara and Valara falls are on the Adimali side of Munnar, so Day 1 takes the road in from the Kochi side instead of the Udumalpet road, which makes it a longer drive. You stop at both falls by the roadside, check in at Munnar, and finish the day at Blossom Park in town.

  2. Day 2: Eravikulam, Tea Museum, Mattupetty, Echo Point and Top Station

This is your long sightseeing day. Morning at Eravikulam National Park, then the Tata Tea Museum near town. After lunch you drive the Mattupetty road to the dam and Echo Point and on to Top Station, the viewpoint at the end of the road. On the way you pass an elephant park where visitors stop for short rides; tell your driver if you want to stop. Rides are paid separately.

  3. Day 3: Anamudi view, Marayoor, Chinnar and back to Coimbatore

Check out after breakfast. You get a view of Anamudi on the way out, then drive down through the Marayoor sandalwood forest and Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary to Udumalpet and Coimbatore. The return takes around 4.5 to 5.5 hours with stops.

How far is Munnar from Coimbatore

Munnar is about 150 km from Coimbatore by the Pollachi, Udumalpet and Chinnar road, which you use on Day 3. The Day 1 road via the Adimali side is longer, so expect a full day of driving.

Places you will see

Eravikulam and Anamudi. Kerala Tourism's Eravikulam guide says Rajamalai is the only zone where visitors can see the Nilgiri tahr, and that Anamudi, at 2,695 metres the highest peak in South India, is inside the park. You see Anamudi from a distance; it is not open for trekking.

Mattupetty and Top Station. Kerala Tourism's Mattupetty page describes the late-1940s dam and the boating on its lake. Top Station is further up the same road.

Marayoor. The only place in Kerala where sandalwood grows naturally, according to Kerala Tourism's Marayoor page. The forest department runs a sandalwood depot there.

Best time to go

Any month works. Eravikulam shuts from February to March for the Nilgiri tahr calving season, per Kerala Tourism. The Day 1 waterfalls are fullest from June to September, when the roads are also wettest.

Frequently asked questions

Can we book just a cab to Munnar without the package?

If you only need a vehicle, our car rental in Coimbatore team quotes by vehicle and kilometres, so a Coimbatore to Munnar cab fare depends on the car and the route. This package is different: one price for the vehicle, driver, fuel, toll, parking and two hotel nights. Tell us which you need and we quote it.

Do we stay in the same hotel both nights?

Yes. On this Munnar 2 nights 3 days package you stay both nights in one Munnar hotel, so you unpack once. The quote names the hotel we confirm for your dates.

What are the Tata Tea Museum timings?

The museum is near Munnar town and has a weekly closing day. Hours change, so we check them for your date. If Day 2 falls on its closed day, we swap the order of your days so you still see it.

Can we add the Chokramudi trek?

It is not in this plan. The Chokramudi trek starts near Bison Valley and needs a morning on its own with a forest pass and guide. Entry depends on the forest department on the day. Ask us to add a night or swap it for part of Day 2.

What happens if Eravikulam tickets sell out?

The forest department controls the tickets. If they sell out or the park is closed, you get more time at Top Station and Mattupetty instead.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who is this package not for?

If you have only a weekend, our Munnar 2 days tour package fits better. If you want the Periyar boat ride at Thekkady too, choose the Munnar and Thekkady 4-day trip. Couples can look at our Munnar honeymoon plan. For a quieter hill stay, see Vagamon in 3 days.
