Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to BR Hills, temple and safari

    We leave early and cross the Dhimbam ghat in daylight, since private vehicles are allowed through the Sathyamangalam forest only during the day. At BR Hills you visit the Biligiriranganatha Swamy temple on the hilltop, dedicated to Lord Ranganatha. In the afternoon you go on the BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary safari. Night at the eco resort. The drive is around 4 to 5 hours with stops. Ghat rules and safari timings change by season, so we check them for your travel date and plan the day around them.

  2. Day 2: Soliga village, K Gudi, return to Coimbatore

    The Soliga people live in these hills, and the Chamarajanagar district page notes Soliga settlements near K Gudi. Visits to a village happen only where the community and forest department allow them, with a local guide. Then K Gudi, about 30 km from Chamarajanagar town and 1,450 m up, where the forest department runs open-vehicle safaris. Back to Coimbatore before the ghat closes. Entry to any village or K Gudi depends on the forest department on the day; if it is closed, we swap in another stop nearby.

How far and how to reach

BR Hills is about 90 km from Mysore, and from Coimbatore the usual road runs through Sathyamangalam and the Dhimbam ghat to Chamarajanagar. That ghat is in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve and closes to most private vehicles at night, so both days are planned around it. Your driver may change the order of stops on the day to stay within the ghat timings.

Places you will see

Karnataka Tourism lists gaur, sloth bear, sambar, tigers, leopards, wild dogs and elephants in the sanctuary, plus more than 200 bird species. Sightings are never guaranteed, and the hills, temple and quiet are reasons enough to go. K Gudi has the forest department's safari vehicles and a Jungle Lodges camp, which the district page says must be booked in advance.

Best time to go

Karnataka Tourism names June to October, when rain brings the forest back to life. Others prefer the dry months, December to April, when the forest is thinner. The temple draws big crowds on festival days, so ask us before you pick your dates.

What is included in the price?

Your vehicle and driver for two days, fuel, tolls, parking, driver charges and one night at the resort. Safari seats, meals and temple sevas are paid separately. You get the full list in writing.

What if the safari is full?

Safaris here are run by the forest department and seats sell out on weekends and holidays. We try to book as soon as you confirm and tell you at once if no seat is free.

Is BR Hills a good short trip from Coimbatore?

Yes, it is one of the closest. BR Hills is near enough that you spend most of your time in the forest rather than on the road, which is not true of Coorg or Chikmagalur on a 2-day plan.

It works for couples who like quiet: a forest resort, a temple at sunrise and a safari. If you want a hill station with more to do in the evenings, the Coorg honeymoon retreat is a better fit.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
