Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Wayanad, Pookode Lake

    Pickup in Coimbatore and the drive up into Wayanad, a long drive of around 4.5 to 5.5 hours with stops. After check-in, if light allows, you visit Pookode Lake, which the district lists as 8.5 hectares and 3 km from Vythiri. Boating is paid there.

  2. Day 2: Edakkal Caves and the Heritage Museum

    Both sit near Ambalavayal, so they share a day. Edakkal Caves is reached by about 300 steps, and Kerala Tourism dates its oldest rock engravings to around 6000 BC. Go in the morning before the queue builds. The Wayanad Heritage Museum at Ambalavayal is a short drive away and needs an hour. Opening days and timings change by season, so we check them for your travel date.

  3. Day 3: Chembra, 900 Kandi and Banasura Sagar Dam

    Morning on the Meppadi side for the Chembra Peak area and 900 Kandi, then Banasura Sagar Dam. Kerala Tourism calls Banasura Sagar the largest earth dam in India, about 15 km from Kalpetta. Entry and fees at 900 Kandi are paid on site and can change by season.

  4. Day 4: Lakkidi View Point and drop

    Lakkidi sits at the top of the ghat road down to Calicut, so it is the natural last stop. From there we drive back to Coimbatore, around 4 to 5 hours with stops, and drop you at your pickup point by evening.

How far is Wayanad and how to reach

Wayanad has no railway station, so there is no Coimbatore to Wayanad train. If you came by train you would ride to Kozhikode and then go up by road, so most people from Coimbatore go by road the whole way. We pick up at Coimbatore airport, the station or your door.

Best time to go

Kerala Tourism gives the Chembra trekking season as October to March, and Chembra Peak weather is clearest then too, as it is for the rest of the trip. June to September brings heavy rain and mist; views close in and some stops or treks may close, in which case we swap in another stop nearby.

Price and how to book

₹16,000 to ₹19,500 per person. Your figure depends on dates, the hotel and group size; the vehicle cost is shared, so a group of 8 pays less each than a couple. We send a sedan for up to 4, an Ertiga or Innova for 6 or 7, and a Tempo Traveller or Urbania for bigger groups, named in your quote.

Chembra Peak trekking: what to expect

Kerala Tourism puts Chembra Peak at about 2,100 m; the Chembra Peak distance from Kalpetta is about 17 km. The Chembra Peak trekking start point is on the Meppadi side, and the trek needs prior permission from the Meppadi Forest Range Office. The Chembra Peak trekking time from the base is 3 to 4 hours under good conditions, per Kerala Tourism's trek page, with a heart-shaped lake on the way. Your driver takes you to the base; guide and permit fees are paid there. Entry depends on the forest department on the day; if the trek is closed, we swap in another stop nearby.

Chembra trekking is not for small children or anyone with knee trouble. Those guests can stay at the base area while the others climb.

Is this trip suitable for families?

Yes. This is one of our Wayanad tour packages for family groups, and families are the main group we plan it for. Edakkal's steps and the Chembra trek are the two hard parts; tell us the ages in your group and we set the pace around them.

Can we add Thirunelli Temple?

Yes. Thirunelli Temple, the old Vishnu temple in north Wayanad near Mananthavady, can replace 900 Kandi on Day 3. Temple dress rules apply.

Can we do the Banasura trek?

Kerala Tourism notes the Banasura Sagar dam site is a starting point for trekking. If you want the Banasura hill trekking route, we fit it into Day 3 and confirm the distance, permit and fees when you book.

Can we shorten it?

Yes. We can cut this to a Wayanad 2 days trip package on request, but you lose the Chembra and Banasura day.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who should pick a different package?
