Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Pondicherry, Promenade Beach and the French Quarter

    Leave Coimbatore early; most of the day is the drive east, around 7 to 8 hours with breaks, longer on weekends. After check-in, walk Promenade Beach in the evening and the French Quarter lanes behind it. The ashram's visitor FAQ gives public hours of 8.00 to 11.30 am and 2.00 to 6.00 pm, so on arrival day you may only see the building from outside.

  2. Day 2: Auroville, Matrimandir viewpoint, Chunnambar Boat House and Paradise Beach

    Morning is Auroville. The Auroville visiting page says free Matrimandir Viewing Point passes are given at the Visitors Centre from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm, after a short video. You collect the pass yourself (drivers cannot), and the viewpoint is about a 10-minute walk.

    After lunch, the driver takes you to Chunnambar Boat House at Nonankuppam. The boat crosses the backwater to Paradise Beach, a sand strip you can only reach by water. Come back on the last boat.

  3. Day 3: Basilica, Bharathi Park, the market and return to Coimbatore

    See the Basilica and Bharathi Park, which sits in the old town near the beach. Finish at the Pondicherry market, then leave by late morning to reach Coimbatore the same night.

How far / how to reach

Pondicherry is about 385 km from Coimbatore by road, and your driver picks the best route on the day. We drive you both ways, with no train or bus change.

Chunnambar Boat House is roughly 8 km south of the town centre. The driver drops you at Chunnambar, you buy the boat ticket there or through boat ride booking on the Puducherry Tourism site, and the boat takes you across.

Places you will see

Promenade Beach. A rocky seafront walkway. Good for an evening walk, not for swimming.

Pondicherry Paradise Beach. Many visitors call it Paradise Island, since the only way in is the boat. There is not much to do at Paradise Beach: walk, sit in the shade, paddle at the edge. Anything beyond that depends on what the tourism department runs that season.

Auroville. You see the Matrimandir from the viewing point. The inner chamber needs a separate booking, not included.

Aurobindo Ashram Pondicherry. The main building holds the Samadhi of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. Visitors keep silence inside.

Best time to go

The Puducherry district tourism page says the town gets most of its rain from the North-East monsoon, usually October to December, when boats can stop. January to March is the most settled. April to June is hot, so walk early and take the afternoon boat.

Price and how to book

From ₹12,500 per person. The vehicle cost is shared, so a bigger group pays less each. The Pondicherry trip cost for 3 days depends on dates, hotel, rooms and vehicle. A couple travels in a sedan, a family of six in an Innova or Innova Crysta, and 10 or more in a Tempo Traveller or Force Urbania. The vehicle is named in your quote.

You pay for the boat ticket at Chunnambar, and it is not part of our price. Fares and boat timings change by season, so check them on the Puducherry Tourism site before you go.

What does the Pondicherry 3 days tour package include?

Your AC vehicle with driver for three days, Coimbatore pickup and drop, two nights in a 3-star or similar hotel and the sightseeing listed, with fuel, toll, parking and driver charges inside the price. You pay meals, the boat ticket and entry fees on the spot.

Can we do Pondicherry in 2 days from Coimbatore?

We can, but we advise against it. A 2-day version spends half its time on the road and drops Auroville or Paradise Beach. A short budget trip makes more sense from Chennai. From Coimbatore, the third day is what makes the drive worth it.

What if the Paradise Beach boats are not running?

Boats can stop for rough sea or heavy rain. The driver then takes you to another beach or adds time in Auroville or the French Quarter. Boat tickets are bought on the day, so you do not lose money on an unused one.

Can we change the plan or add Mahe beach?

You can reorder stops or swap the market for a café afternoon. Mahe beach Pondicherry is not close by: Mahe is a separate part of Puducherry on the Kerala coast, so it is not in this trip.

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
