Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Palani darshan and back
5:30 AM. Pickup. Leaving early puts you at Palani before the long queues build.
Morning, the hill temple. You go up by the Palani steps, the winch or the rope car. The Dindigul district page on Palani temple lists temple hours of 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the winch from 6:00 AM, and the rope car from 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Your driver waits at the foothills.
Midday. Thiru Avinankudi temple, then lunch in Palani town.
Afternoon. Periyanayaki Amman temple if the morning queue was short. Then the drive back, reaching Coimbatore by about 8:30 PM.
How far / how to reach
Palani is about 100 km from Coimbatore, which the district page also states. The road runs through Pollachi or Udumalpet.
Places you will see
Murugan is worshipped here as Dhandayuthapani, one of the six abodes of Murugan. The temple stands on Sivagiri, at the foot of the Palani hills, and the district page notes the panchamirtham prasadam.
Best time to go
Any weekday outside festivals is easiest. Thai Poosam, in the Tamil month of Thai (mid January to mid February), is the biggest festival and brings very large crowds. Weekends and festival days can stretch the darshan queue, and the return can slip past 8:30 PM.
Vehicle for your group size
The vehicle is part of the package price. We match it to your group, and you can ask for a different one.

Frequently asked questions
Is the bus cheaper than a car to Palani?
For one or two people, usually yes. Direct buses run from most Tamil Nadu towns, and Palani has its own railway station, so check the current Coimbatore to Palani train service if you prefer the train. A car suits families and elders who want door-to-door travel.
Can you tell us the bus timings to Palani?
We do not run buses and cannot confirm Coimbatore to Palani bus timings. Check the TNSTC booking site. Our car leaves at 5:30 AM, or at a time you choose.
Are the temple timings different on Sundays?
The district page lists 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with a 4:30 AM opening on festival days. Sundays are usually busier, and timings can change on the day, so we confirm them before you leave.
Can elderly parents manage the hill?
Yes. The winch and rope car avoid the steps. Queues for them can be long on busy days.
Can we add Kodaikanal?
Not in a single day. Kodaikanal sits in the upper Palani hills, per the Dindigul district's Kodaikanal page, but it needs a stay of its own. If you want a longer break, our Palani and Kodaikanal in 4 days adds a night in the hills. For temples across Tamil Nadu, see the Arupadai Veedu Murugan temples tour or the 10-day South India temples trip. Closer to Coimbatore, the Isha and Velliangiri day tour is another temple day.
How do payment and cancellation work?
A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
