Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Munnar

    Early pickup in Coimbatore. Isha Yoga Center is a stop on request; we plan the day around it. The road climbs into Kerala through Udumalpet and the Chinnar forest, with a stop at Lakkam Falls. Check in at Munnar.

  2. Day 2: Eravikulam National Park and Munnar sightseeing

    Morning at Eravikulam National Park (Rajamala) to see the Nilgiri tahr, then Mattupetty Dam and Echo Point. On the Mattupetty road you pass the Mattupetty Indo-Swiss farm, a cattle breeding farm. Whether visitors are admitted depends on the farm on the day, and if it is closed we swap in another stop nearby. Second night in Munnar.

  3. Day 3: Munnar to Thekkady

    Drive south to Thekkady (Kumily). In the afternoon you walk through a spice garden and visit an elephant camp. Night in Thekkady.

  4. Day 4: Periyar boat ride

    Morning boat ride on Periyar Lake inside the tiger reserve. The rest of the day is free for spice shopping in Kumily or a local cultural show. Second night in Thekkady.

  5. Day 5: Thekkady to Coimbatore

    Check out and drive back to Coimbatore, with a drop at your pickup point. The drive is around 5.5 to 6.5 hours with stops, so you reach Coimbatore in the evening.

How far is Munnar and Thekkady from Coimbatore?

Munnar is about 160 km from Coimbatore by road through Pollachi and Udumalpet, roughly 5 hours with the ghat section. Munnar to Thekkady is about 85 km, around 2 to 3 hours. Thekkady back to Coimbatore is about 275 km, around 5.5 to 6.5 hours, and each leg can take longer on season weekends.

Places you will see

Of the main attractions in Munnar, Eravikulam National Park is the one to plan your dates around. Kerala Tourism's Eravikulam page says visitors are allowed only in the Rajamala tourism zone, and that the park closes in February and March every year for the tahr calving season.

Mattupetty sits at about 1,700 m, 13 km from Munnar, with a dam, a lake with boating and a dairy farm, according to Kerala Tourism's Mattupetty guide. Echo Point is on the same road toward Top Station.

Kumily, the town at Thekkady, grows cardamom, pepper and cloves (Kerala Tourism: Kumily spice plantations). The boat ride runs on the lake inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve.

Best time to go

September to May, avoiding February and March if you want Eravikulam (closed for calving). June to August brings heavy rain: Lakkam Falls is full, but viewpoints vanish in mist.

Price and how to book

The price is ₹21,000 to ₹25,000 per person. The per-person rate falls as your group grows, because the vehicle cost is shared. Couples get a sedan, families an Ertiga, Innova or Innova Crysta, and groups of 10 or more a Tempo Traveller or Force Urbania. The vehicle is named in your quote.

Periyar boat seats are limited and sell out on holidays. We try to book them for you as soon as you confirm.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Eravikulam National Park entry fee and timings?

The Kerala Forest Department sets and revises them, so we check them for your travel date when you book. The park closes every February and March for the calving season. Tickets are not part of the package price.

What if the Periyar boat ride is sold out?

The boats run inside the tiger reserve and seats go fast in season. We book as soon as you confirm. If no seats are left for your date, we suggest another Thekkady activity or keep the morning free. Your written quote states exactly what is included.

Can we end the trip in Cochin instead of Coimbatore?

No. All our trips start and end in Coimbatore, and we drop you at your pickup point on Day 5. If you are catching a flight or train later, tell us your timings when you book and we plan Day 5 around them.

Can we change the plan?

Yes. Skip Isha, add Top Station or move a Thekkady night to Munnar. Tell us when you ask for a quote and we adjust the plan and price before you pay.

Who should pick a different package?

If you also want an Alleppey houseboat, take our 6 day Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey tour. Honeymoon couples who want only Munnar should look at the Munnar honeymoon package. Short on time? Our 2-day Thekkady weekend is the lighter option. For tea hills only, take the 3-day Munnar trip.

What about payment and cancellation?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
