Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Hampi, Virupaksha Temple and Hemakuta Hill sunset

Hampi is about 590 km from Coimbatore by road, around 11 to 12 hours with stops. To reach Hemakuta Hill by sunset we leave around 4 am. If the road is slow, the Virupaksha visit moves to the next morning. The Vijayanagara district page notes that the Virupaksha Temple, Hampi's only temple still used for worship, has a nine-storey gopuram and a painted ceiling in the Ranga Mantapa.

  2. Day 2: Vittala Temple, Stone Chariot, Royal Enclosure, Lotus Mahal and Elephant Stables

Start early at the Vittala Temple, home of the Stone Chariot and a Ranga Mantapa with 56 musical pillars. After lunch, the Royal Enclosure with the Mahanavami Dibba and the stepped tank, then the Lotus Mahal and the Elephant Stables nearby.

  3. Day 3: Sunrise viewpoint, optional Anegundi and the return journey

Sunrise from a hilltop viewpoint; your driver picks the spot on the day to suit light and crowds. If you want, cross to Anegundi on the north bank of the Tungabhadra, which the district tourism page links to Kishkinda of the Ramayana. Then start the long drive home; it is a late arrival back in Coimbatore, so tell us if you would rather split the journey.

How far / how to reach

Hampi is about 590 km from Coimbatore. The district page lists Hosapete, 12 km away, as the nearest railway station, and Jindal Vijayanagar Airport about 38 km away. If you prefer to come by train and meet our vehicle there, ask us and we explain the options in your quote.

Best time to go

October to February is the comfortable season. March to May is very hot on the rocks, so plan sightseeing for early morning and late afternoon. The Hampi Utsav festival brings crowds when it is held, so ask us if your dates may overlap.

Vehicle for your group size

The vehicle is part of the package price. We match it to your group, and you can ask for a different one.

Explore Hampi with a car and driver

The ruins spread over about 26 sq km south of the river, according to the district tourism page. Walking between them in the heat is tiring, so your driver moves you between clusters and waits with water in the vehicle. That is the simplest way to cover the far sites in two full days.

Photography at Hampi: what to plan

Hampi is a popular backdrop for photos, and couples often ask us about pre-wedding shoots at Hampi. Most Hampi photoshoot ideas come down to light and permission. A few practical points:

  • Light is best in the first two hours after sunrise and the last hour before sunset, which is why this plan puts Hemakuta and the sunrise viewpoint at those times.
  • Spots that photograph well: the Stone Chariot early before crowds, the arches of the Lotus Mahal, the stepped tank in the Royal Enclosure and boulders at sunset.
  • Professional shoots, drones and tripods inside protected monuments may need prior permission from the Archaeological Survey of India. Rules and fees change, so check with the ASI before you plan a shoot.
  • Shooting on a phone for yourself needs no permit.

We arrange the vehicle and timing; we do not provide photographers.

Frequently asked questions

Can we do Hampi in one day from Coimbatore?

No. A Hampi one day tour package only makes sense from Hosapete or Bengaluru. From Coimbatore, the drive alone takes most of a day, so three days is the shortest trip we run.

Can we hire a guide?

Yes, licensed guides are available at the main sites. Their fee is paid by you on the spot, and rates are agreed there.

Can we add Badami?

Badami needs an extra day. For both, take our Hampi and Badami 4-day trip, or the 5-day version with a Chitradurga Fort stop.

What if the Vittala Temple area is crowded or closed?

The driver changes the order so you reach busy sites early. If any area is closed by ASI on the day, we move that time to another cluster.

Who should pick a different package?

Families with small children may find the heat and walking hard; a hill trip like our Ooty family 3-day package is easier. If you want a temple circuit on the Karnataka coast, see our Karnataka temples tour.

How do we pay, and what if we cancel?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
