Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Coorg, Raja's Seat in the evening

    We take the Mysore road and turn west for Madikeri. It is roughly 300 km, around 6 to 7 hours with stops. After check-in you go to Raja's Seat for the sunset.

  2. Day 2: Talakaveri, Bhagamandala, Abbey Falls and Omkareshwara

    Talakaveri is the farthest point, about 50 km from Abbey Falls according to Karnataka Tourism, so we go there first, while the hill is clear. On the way down you stop at Bhagamandala, the Triveni Sangama of the Kaveri, the Kannike and the mythical Sujyothi. After lunch comes Abbey Falls. The Omkareshwara Temple is open 6:30 AM to 12 PM and 5 PM to 8 PM, so we save it for the evening.

  3. Day 3: Dubare rafting, Nisargadhama, return to Coimbatore

    Morning at Dubare for river rafting in Coorg (in season) and the elephant camp, then Kaveri Nisargadhama, and the drive home via Kushalnagar and Mysore. The drive home takes around 6 to 7 hours with stops.

How far / how to reach

Coorg is reached by road from Coimbatore through Mysore, then west via Hunsur or Kushalnagar. Everything on this trip is done in the same vehicle with the same driver.

Places you will see

Talakaveri sits in the Brahmagiri hills and is believed to be the source of the Kaveri, per Karnataka Tourism's Coorg guide. There are steps to the hilltop viewpoint.

Abbey Falls is about 6 km from Madikeri town. The Abbey Falls page notes that you view it from platforms and are not allowed into the water.

Omkareshwara was built in 1820 by King Lingarajendra II and mixes Kerala-style tiled roofs with Islamic domes, an unusual look for a Hindu temple.

Kaveri Nisargadhama is a 64-acre river island near Kushalnagar, reached by a hanging bridge, with a deer park and boat rides, according to Karnataka Tourism's Bylakuppe guide. Timings and ticket prices change by season, so we check them for your travel date.

A note on names: the Triveni Sangama on this trip is at Bhagamandala in Coorg. It is not the Triveni Sangam near Mysore or the sangam at Srirangapatna, which are not on this plan.

Best time to go

October to March gives clear views from Raja's Seat and Talakaveri. Rafting at Dubare depends on river level and runs only part of the year. June to September brings heavy rain, slow roads and full waterfalls.

Frequently asked questions

Can we go rafting near Madikeri?

Not in Madikeri town. The rafting on this trip is at Dubare on the Kaveri, on the Kushalnagar side. It runs only in season and the fee is paid to the operator.

Can we stop at the Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysore on the way?

Yes, as an add-on on Day 1. The hill detour adds time, so you may reach Coorg after sunset and lose Raja's Seat. We can move Raja's Seat to Day 2 evening instead. If Mysore is the main draw, see our one-day Mysore trip.

Can we change the plan?

Yes, before booking. Long detours may change the price.

What if Dubare is closed that day?

The camp and rafting can stop because of river levels or forest orders. We swap in another stop close by, such as the Golden Temple at Bylakuppe.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
