Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Coorg, Abbey Falls, Raja's Seat sunset

We leave early; Madikeri is a long drive through forest roads. In the afternoon you walk down to Abbey Falls. Karnataka Tourism lists Abbey Falls as 6 km from Madikeri, open 9 am to 5 pm, with no swimming allowed. Then sunset at Raja's Seat, the garden where, the Kodagu district page says, Kodava kings spent their evenings. Night in Coorg. The drive from Coimbatore is about 315 km, around 6 to 7 hours with stops, longer on weekends.

  2. Day 2: Dubare, Golden Temple, return to Coimbatore

Morning at Dubare on the Kaveri, then the Namdroling monastery at Bylakuppe, which Karnataka Tourism calls the Golden Temple, open 9 am to 6 pm and about 5 km from Kushalnagar. We leave by early afternoon so the forest stretches of the return are done in daylight. Some forest roads have night restrictions, so your driver plans the timing on the day.

Places you will see

Raja's Seat is the best-known Coorg sunset point in Madikeri, about 1 km west of the Madikeri bus stand. Madikeri Fort is a few minutes away in town, so ask the driver to stop if you arrive early. The easiest places near Abbey Falls to add are Madikeri Fort and the Omkareshwara temple. At the falls, the hanging bridge gives you the classic view of Abbey Falls.

Dubare note: Jungle Lodges and Resorts, which runs the Dubare elephant camp, currently lists the elephant camp visit as "temporarily stopped". If it is still closed, we give you more time at Bylakuppe or a stop at Nisargadhama. Entry depends on the forest department on the day.

Best time to go

October to March is the comfortable season. In the monsoon (June to September) Abbey Falls is at its fullest, the roads are slower and the Raja's Seat sunset is often hidden.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Dubare elephant camp timings and entry fee?

Jungle Lodges lists its Dubare day visit from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, starting at ₹2,200 per person with breakfast and lunch, but marks the elephant camp visit as temporarily stopped. We check the current status before your trip and do not include the fee in our quote.

Can we go rafting on this trip?

Not in the 2-day plan. For rafting in Coorg, the Kodagu district page lists white-water rafting on the Barapole river, 78 km from Madikeri, best in the monsoon. That needs an extra day.

Can we change the plan?

Yes. A common swap is Madikeri Fort and Omkareshwara for Dubare. Tell us before you confirm.

Do you have a longer Coorg trip?

This is our only Coorg itinerary for 2 days. If you can stay longer, the Coorg honeymoon retreat gives you 3 days, and the 4-day Coorg break adds coffee estates.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who should pick a different package?

If you want Mysore on the way, the Bangalore, Mysore and Coorg tour covers both. People who find the drive too long for 2 days may prefer the closer BR Hills weekend. For coffee estates as well, our Chikmagalur and Coorg trip takes four days.
