Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Valparai via Pollachi

    Pickup in the morning and south to Pollachi. First stop is Aliyar Dam, 64 km from Coimbatore and 24 km from Pollachi. The district page says it was built between 1959 and 1969, stands 81 m high and has a park below and boating. A few kilometres on, Monkey Falls sits right on the Pollachi to Valparai road. Then the climb: around 40 hairpin bends up to Valparai, with Loam's View Point on the way. Evening among the tea estates, and the night in Valparai.

  2. Day 2: Nallamudi, Balaji Temple, Sholayar Dam and return

    Early start for Nallamudi View Point, when the valley is clearest. Then the Balaji Temple at Karimalai, about 15 km from Valparai, and Upper Sholayar Dam, also about 15 km out, per the Coimbatore district page on Valparai. Last stop is the Carver Marsh memorial, then down the bends to Pollachi and Coimbatore. Drop time depends on traffic and how long you stay at each stop.

How far / how to reach

Coimbatore to Valparai is about 102 km by road through Pollachi, according to the district. The last stretch is the hairpin section, which takes time, so we start early. Allow around 2.5 to 3.5 hours with stops. The nearest airport and major railway station are in Coimbatore, where we pick you up.

Places you will see

Valparai stands above 3,500 feet in the Anamalai range, 64 km from Pollachi and 102 km from Coimbatore, and is ringed by tea and coffee estates. The district notes that planter Carver Marsh became known as the Father of the Anamalais and that his statue stands in the Kavarkal estate; that is the "Carver Marsh" stop on this plan. The same page mentions elephants, leopards and Nilgiri tahr in the range, and great hornbills in the forests. We never promise sightings.

Monkey Falls hours and season

The district page for Kavi Aruvi (Monkey Falls) lists the Monkey Falls timings as 9 AM to 5 PM with a ₹50 ticket per person. The forest department closes it during heavy rain: the Anamalai Tiger Reserve site posted that the falls reopened to visitors on 15 July 2026. The falls run fullest after the monsoon rains, but check that the gate is open before you plan around it. If it is shut, the driver gives you extra time at Aliyar. Dam timings and boating hours change by season, so we check them for your date.

Best time to go

The weeks after the monsoon bring full falls and green estates. Summer is clear and cool in Valparai while the plains are hot. Heavy monsoon rain can close Monkey Falls and slow the ghat road.

Frequently asked questions

Can we add a second night?

Yes, or pick our Valparai and Pollachi 3 days tour, which has two nights. For waterfalls too, there is the Athirapally and Valparai 4-day trip.

Can we do Valparai in one day instead?

You can. Our Valparai day trip does it, but it is a long day in the vehicle.

What if Monkey Falls is closed?

We go anyway via Aliyar and spend the time at the dam and viewpoints. Closures are decided by the forest department on the day.

Is the hairpin road safe for people who get car sick?

The road is narrow with many tight bends. Our drivers take it slowly and stop when asked. Eat light before the climb.

Can we see wildlife?

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
