How the two days run

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Chikmagalur, Mullayanagiri and a coffee estate

    Your driver picks you up before dawn. In the hills, we go up Mullayanagiri, then walk through a coffee estate before checking in for the night.

  2. Day 2: Baba Budangiri, Jhari Falls and the drive home

    After breakfast, drive to Baba Budangiri on the same range, then Jhari Falls. Some forest roads allow only local vehicles; if that applies on your date, we explain how that stretch works in your quote. Then the long drive home, with a late drop at your pickup point.

How far is it from Coimbatore?

You go by road both ways in a private AC vehicle, usually through Mysore and Hassan. Your driver may change the route on the day to suit traffic and weather.

Places you will see

The Chikkamagaluru district administration's Mullayanagiri page gives the Mullayanagiri height as 1,930 metres (6,330 ft), the highest peak in Karnataka. The summit has a small shrine to a sage, Mulappa Swamy. The same district office notes that you walk the last part from the halfway point, so wear shoes with grip.

Baba Budangiri lies north of Chikmagalur town. The district tourism page says the range takes its name from the saint Baba Budan.

The coffee estate walk is the quiet half of Day 1. These rows of coffee under shade trees are also good spots for couples' photos, so bring a camera.

Jhari Falls is a waterfall on the Baba Budangiri side of the range. Flow is strongest after the monsoon.

Best time to go

October to February gives the clearest mornings; the district page says you can see the Arabian Sea from the summit on clear days. In the June to September monsoon the falls are full, but cloud often hides the view, and heavy rain can slow or block hill roads.

The price starts from ₹11,500 per person and depends on your dates, hotel and vehicle. A couple fits a sedan. A family of six fits an Innova or Innova Crysta. Mullayanagiri booking and vehicle rules

Mullayanagiri booking is now done online. In 2025 the Chikkamagaluru administration capped vehicles at 600 per slot, with slots from 6 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 6 pm. Private buses and mini buses are not allowed on the hill road, Daijiworld reported. Tempo Travellers, cars and SUVs are allowed within a quota. Slots, fees and vehicle rules change, so we check the district portal when we book.

So groups bigger than a Tempo Traveller travel in two vehicles, not a bus. We book the slot once your dates are fixed, and if it is full we move the peak to the other slot or the other day.

If you want the full Mullayanagiri trek from Sarpadhari instead of the short walk, tell us when you book. Whether the trek is open depends on the forest department on the day. It adds hours and usually means skipping Jhari Falls.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do we need for Chikmagalur?

Two days is enough for the peaks, one estate and Jhari Falls, but it does not leave time for Kemmangundi, Hebbe Falls or a slow estate stay. With three or four days, one of our other Chikmagalur trips fits better.

Is a two-day Chikmagalur trip worth it from Coimbatore?

Yes, if you accept two long drive days and want the peaks most of all. Otherwise add a night; we can quote both.

Can we swap Jhari Falls for Hebbe Falls?

Hebbe Falls is near Kemmangundi, which the district lists 55 km north of town. It needs a forest jeep and most of a day. Entry depends on the forest department on the day. On this plan the swap would push your return very late, so we suggest a 3-day Chikmagalur plan for it.

Can you take us to estates for a pre-wedding shoot?

We drive you to the estates and viewpoints and wait while you shoot. We do not hire photographers. Some estates charge for shoots, so tell us early and we will check.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who is this package not for?

Senior travellers and families with small children may find two long drive days hard. The 8-day Mysore, Coorg and Chikmagalur circuit spreads the driving out.
