Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Coonoor and Ooty

    Leave Coimbatore early and climb the Ooty ghat road from Mettupalayam to Coonoor. Walk Sim's Park, then drive out to Lamb's Rock and Dolphin's Nose for the valley views, with a tea garden stop, Katary view point and the MRC outer view along the way. Reach Ooty by late afternoon, check in, then see Ooty Lake and the Thread Garden before dinner.

  2. Day 2: Ooty sightseeing and return

    Start at Doddabetta, then the Botanical Garden and the Rose Garden, both in town. Drive west to the pine forest, the shooting point and Pykara Lake and Falls, stop at the Karnataka garden on the way back, and descend to Coimbatore by night. Your driver may drop or reorder stops to beat crowds and fog.

How far / how to reach

We drive you from Coimbatore by road through Mettupalayam, about 90 km and around 3 to 4 hours with stops. The Mettupalayam to Ooty train (the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a metre gauge line) is a separate option; we do not handle Mettupalayam to Ooty train booking, but we can meet you at Ooty station if you ride it up. Compared with the Mettupalayam to Ooty bus, our vehicle lets you stop in Coonoor. There is no Ooty airport. The closest airport to Ooty is Coimbatore, where we can pick you up.

Places you will see

Doddabetta is the highest peak in Tamil Nadu at 2,623 m, about 10 km from Ooty bus stand, with a telescope house run by TTDC. The Botanical Garden covers 55 acres and was laid out in 1897. Botanical Garden timings and ticket rates change, so we confirm them on the day.

In Coonoor, Dolphin's Nose is about 12 km from the bus stand and looks across to Catherine Falls, and Lamb's Rock is about 8 km out on the same road. The tea garden stop is a working estate view on the way; it is a photo stop, not a factory tour, and the driver picks the estate on the day.

On the Pykara road, the district notes that the Wenlock Downs grassland is popular with film crews, which is why the shooting point stop is one of the best-known Ooty film shooting locations. Pykara Falls is about 20 km from Ooty and the lake about 21 km.

Best time to go

March to June is the busy season, and the Botanical Garden hosts the Ooty flower show every May. Ooty rainfall is heaviest in the monsoon months, which also bring fog on the ghat road. The Ooty off season, the quieter months after the rains, has fewer crowds and usually easier hotel availability.

Frequently asked questions

Can we change the plan?

Yes. Many groups drop the Karnataka garden or Thread Garden to get home earlier. Tell us which stops matter when you ask for a quote. If a place closes on the day, the driver moves to the next one.

Is this too rushed for children or older parents?

It can be. Day 1 has a long climb and many stops. For a slower trip, our Ooty and Coonoor 3-day package or the Ooty family package gives you a second night. Our Ooty sightseeing plan for 3 days and Ooty with Mudumalai in 4 days go further. For another hill station, try Yercaud in 2 days.

Can we book a cottage instead of a hotel?

Yes. For an Ooty cottage booking, tell us your budget and we quote a cottage in place of the hotel, subject to availability.

How to dress up in Ooty?

Carry a warm layer even in summer. Evenings at the lake and early mornings at Doddabetta are cold, and rain can come quickly. Wear shoes with grip for Lamb's Rock and Dolphin's Nose.

Where do we eat?

Meals are not included, so you choose. Tell the driver if you want veg restaurants in Ooty and he will plan stops around them.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
