  1. Day 1: Sim's Park and the Coonoor viewpoints

    6:00 AM. Pickup and the ghat road up from Mettupalayam.

    Morning, Sim's Park. The Nilgiris district page on Sim's Park says it opened in 1874, covers 12 hectares in a ravine just north of Coonoor station on the Nilgiri railway, and hosts the yearly vegetable and fruit show.

    Late morning, Lamb's Rock. About 8 km from Coonoor, a sheer drop with a view over the Coimbatore plains, per the district Lamb's Rock page. The view from Lamb's Rock is best on a clear day, so we keep this stop flexible.

    Afternoon, Dolphin's Nose. About 12 km from Coonoor bus stand. The district page for this viewpoint mentions the view across to St. Catherine's Falls.

    Late afternoon. A tea factory or estate viewpoint among the Coonoor tea gardens, then down to Coimbatore by about 8:30 PM. Your driver may change the order on the day to beat crowds or weather.

How far / how to reach

Coonoor is on the Mettupalayam road below Ooty, so it is a shorter drive than Ooty's 89 km from Coimbatore. Coimbatore airport is the nearest airport.

Those four stops fit comfortably in one day. The two viewpoints sit on the same road, so they pair well. Sim's Park suits slower walkers; the viewpoints involve short walks on uneven paths.

Best time to go

Can we include the Nilgiri Mountain Railway?

It is not in the package. Coonoor is a stop on the line, so a ride is possible if you hold tickets; we then meet you at the station. Check current timings on the Indian Railways site before you book.

Do you handle Nilgiri Mountain Railway booking?

No. Book tickets yourself through Indian Railways, then send us the times so we plan around them.

When is Sim's Park open?

Timings and ticket prices change by season, so we check them for your travel date and plan the day around them.

What if fog closes a viewpoint?

We swap the order, wait a little, or add time at the tea estate. Entry fees are paid on the spot.

Should we do Ooty instead?

If you want Doddabetta and the Botanical Garden, take our Ooty one day tour. To see Nilgiri wildlife instead, the Masinagudi and Mudumalai 2-day trip is the closer match. How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
